The Curse

My eldest daughter has been nagging to have her personal handphone last year as it is the latest trend of the school kids. It is 'cool' to own one I guess and on top of that they would also specify the preferred model...

Recently, she attended one of her friend's birthday party and demanded to have an i-pod just like the other girl...Wow, wow...hold on...it is not that I am against to all these technologies but I don't see the necessities at the moment.

Her school is only 5 minutes from our home and I am the 'obedient' driver...it has been 5 years now that I never fail to send or fetch her from school including during the extra curricular activities...

The public phone is available within her school compound and in emergency case, the school would allow the student to make phone call from the office...

I allow her to open a facebook account and instantaneously she gets hook on it. So, I have to press the buzzer and limit the time.

Now, even worse...she is glued in front of the TV almost 24/7 being a fanatic fan of Akademi Fantasia show...

I just can't imagine if only she owns a handphone at this moment...

I found an article on 'The curse of modern life' which come handy at this point of time.

A study found that American college students are hooked on cell phones, social media and the Internet and showing symptoms similar to drug and alcohol addictions.

Researchers (University of Maryland) had conducted a study on 200 students to give up all media for one full day and the outcome supported the addiction behaviours. The students showed signs of withdrawal, craving and anxiety along with an inability to function well.

In fact, in one extreme case in South Korea, it was reported that a couple allegedly neglected their 3 months old daughter, who died malnutrition, because they were on computer up to 12 hours a day raising a virtual child.

The obsessions and addictions will come in place if no form of restrictions is introduced to our youths...

'Prevention is better than cure'...
