Plastic Bottles

The issue of plastic bottles safety resurfaced. Earlier, there was argument that the reused of plastic bottles would pose greater risk of contacting cancer.

Anyway, the assurance by Lim Kok Boon, the chairman of Malaysian Plastics Forum (MPF) on the safety of plastic bottles (polyethylene terephthalate/PET) usage was really a relief.

His assurance was supported by the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) that the PET bottles met standards for food and beverages packaging for both single and repeated use.

PET bottles were subjected to the FDA review and regulations before they were allowed to be used as packaging material.

Lim also provided the report from the International Life Sciences Institute that PET is biologically inert and together with its other physical properties, it is particularly suitable for food packaging applications.

At least from now on, we could have peace of minds when we need to gulp from the PET bottles to quench ourselves........
